Pottstown’s Manatawny Still Works has two bottle releases in time for your Thanksgiving feast. A year after releasing its first Bottled in Bond whiskey, the distillery is back with a second go-around, this one aged five years. Bottled in Bond is a kind of seal of quality and a technical term, meaning the whiskey has been distilled by one distiller, in one distilling season and aged for at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse and bottled at 100 proof.
This year’s Bottled in Bond is Manatawny’s oldest whiskey released to date and is described as having, “pleasing notes of sour cherries mix with oatmeal raisin on the nose, reminiscent of cherry cobbler. Bright flavors of apricots and dates fade to a deeper caramel and seasoned oak character with a mellow, dry finish.”
Bottles of the 100 proof whiskey are $70 and can be pre-ordered for pickup or shipping across Pennsylvania.

Lancaster’s Thistle Finch Distillery is releasing the the third batch of their Bonded Rye Whiskey on Thursday, October 22. This particular batch has been harvested from a single barrel after five-years and five-months of aging.
The tasting notes are enough to get you in line today.
Our tasting notes include aromas of brown sugar, season oak, toasted cereal, and dried stone fruit. Flavors of warm toffee lathered in apple butter, with a rye spiciness reminiscent of pink peppercorns, and an approachable heat are present. It finishes with warm notes of pepper and freshly dipped caramel apple.
Just under 200 bottles are in this batch. Bottles of this limited whiskey will be available at the distillery for $67.
While looking through its inventory, Pittsburgh’s Wigle Whiskey realized one of the barrels would be turning 4 this Leap Day. And of course they couldn’t resist turning the barrel into a Deep Cut, Bottled in Bond release.
The 100 proof whiskey is aged 4 years and has a mash bill of 64% rye and 36% malted barley. Wigle describes the whiskey as having “delicious notes of dark cherry, pepper up front and brown sugar on the finish.” Just 200 bottles of the whiskey will be available. Get your bottle at Wigle’s Ross Park Mall location or at the distillery on the 29th. The mall has the additional benefit cupcakes “baked with a prize” by Sinful Sweets in Pittsburgh.
A small number of bottles are also available for pre-order through Wigle’s website.
The weekend is almost upon us and that means another whiskey release for the ambitious team at Wigle Whiskey.

Leading spirits writer Fred Minnick will be picking his whiskey of the year via YouTube Live on December, 20th. In the run up to the big day, he has announced all of his contenders and Bristol, PA’s Dad’s Hat Bottled in Bond is among the chosen.
About Dad’s Hat Bonded Rye, Minnick says:
Whenever I have posted positive things about Dad’s Hat, it’s often met with a groundswell of “this is crap” comments. And hey, we’re all entitled to our own opinions (for God’s sake, I blab for a living), but I often think people misunderstand this rye and its style. You can genuinely taste rye bread, and that appeals to me. I also love seeing Pennsylvania return to the whiskey game.Whiskey of the Year Contenders
Be sure to tune in on December 20th, when Minnick announces his favorite via a broadcast blind tasting.
With the holiday season kicking off Thanksgiving, many distilleries are preparing special releases for Thanksgiving weekend.
